About the event

The New Old World, South East Europe, or the Balkans - there are many ways to call this ancient winemaking region where wine has been made for 6000 years. On November 20th in Amsterdam we are going to pair 6 best representative wines from their countries - Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Romania, Serbia - with a food pairing menu inspired by local cuisines.

All the wines are made from indigenous grape varieties and selected as best representatives of the grapes, styles and regions they come from.

1. Testament Opolo Brut Rosé - Croatia, traditional method rosé sparkling wine from the local Babic grapes. Feta-cream cheese pie (inspired by Burek sa sirom)

2. Guerila Pinela - Slovenia, light bodied white wine with refreshing acidity made from the rare and local Pinela grape.

Beans with sauerkraut (inspired by Yota soup)

3. Podrumi Vukoje Zilavka - Bosnia, medium bodied white wine with classical floral and peachy aromas of the Zilavka grape.

Chicken with carrots, celeriac, leeks and potatoes (inspired by Begova Corba soup)

4. Guerila Retro Selection - Slovenia, skin contact orange wine from Pinela, Zelen, Rebula, Malvazija grapes

Mushrooms in creamy sauce with smoked paprika (inspired by Gobova Juha mushroom soup)

5. Temet Tri Morave Red - Serbia - full bodied red wine from Serbia's signature Prokupac grapes.

Sarma (cabbage leaves stuffed with rice and minced meat)

6. Negru de Dragasani - Romania - full bodied red wine from Southern Romania's Negru de Dragasani grapes. Mititei with salata de vinete (minced meat "fingers" with aubergine salad)
