The Balkan Tales - Wine Tasting & Meze

After a long (covid) break Terroir Journey is back “on stage”!

We invite you to join the first wine event dedicated to Once Upon A Wine portfolio* in Amsterdam - and we decided to kick start with our beloved Balkan Tales Collection.

The Balkans is not just a geographical, but rather a political and cultural concept. Funny and dramatic moments of the region's history shaped the character of its' people, the traditions, and also the style of wines produced. There's a lot of prejudice when it comes to the wines from this region - people think they're too rustic, too high on alcohol, or too sweet. None of this is true anymore, as you'll see it for yourself.

You'll leave the event learning a lot about the history of this, in fact, ancient region, and why we still don't have the store shelves filled with the high-quality wines produced in these so different yet united under one regional "umbrella" countries. Did you know that wine was made in some of the Balkan countries for more than 6000 years?

We'll take the time to discuss the specialties of the Balkan region from all the perspectives while savouring our wines paired with mouth-watering meze prepared by Bij Barba restaurant.

We'll taste 6 best wines from the Balkan peninsula:

• wines from Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina
• wines from local, indigenous (native to their regions) grape varieties
• wines from small, family-run wineries, most of them biodynamic or organic certified

Expect high-quality wines that you've never tasted before, lots of fun and ... education. The tasting is organized and run by a WSET certified educator, wine tour guide and event host Henrietta Straton, founder of Terroir Journey, Once Upon A Wine, and a wine teacher from Amsterdam.

We will learn how to describe what you taste in your wine in a proper manner, what to look for while choosing a bottle of wine and how not to get into marketing traps of wine labels.

Participants of the event will get 10% discount on wine purchase after the tasting and 5% discount on wine tours organized by Terroir Journey.
